Question 1124813: Find the measurement of angle RST if ray ST bisects angle RSU; Ray SU bisects angle TSV. Angle RST is x+2y-1; angle TSU is6x-9; Angle USV is 2y+5.
All angle are the same by the nature of the question. But I cannot solve for x or y with the information given. No angle measurements are given. Thanks. Answer by ikleyn(52752) (Show Source):
I assume that you made a sketch and that this sketch is before your eyes.
The system of equations is
x + 2y - 1 = 6x - 9 (1) (since ST bisects angle RSU)
6x - 9 = 2y + 5 (2) (since SU bisects angle TSV)
Write it in the standard form
5x - 2y = 8 (1')
6x - 2y = 14 (2')
Subtract eq(1') from eq(2'). You will get
6x - 5x = 14 - 8, or
x = 6.
Then from eq(1') -2y = 8 - 5x = 8 - 5*6 = -22 ====> y = = 11.
