The given figure is the union of the parallelogram KMNJ (the base JN is 4 units long, the height is 4 units long) 
and the right angled triangle KLM with the legs of 3 and 4 units.


So, the area of the figure is  4*4 +  = 16 + 6 = 22 square units.      ANSWER
