Question 107600: I have this question to do for geometry and can't get it. Rounding to the nearest second when is the next time after 5:00 that the hands on a clock will form a right angle. I thought that it could possibly be 5:00:15, but was wrong. Thank You for your help.
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
at 5:00 the angle is 360°(5/12) or 150°
the minute hand moves at 6° per min ... making the angle smaller
the hour hand moves at 30° per hour or .5° per min ... making the angle larger
let x="minutes after 5:00" ... 150-6x+.5x=90 ... 60=5.5x
(remember to convert decimal minutes into minutes and seconds)
