We use N� for the measure of the unknown angle.  Then:

      90� + N� = 389�

Subtract 90� from both sides so as to leave only the N�.

90� + N� - 90� = 389� - 90�

            N� = 299�

Now the unknown angle is not unknown anymore.  It's now KNOWN! :)
