Question 73329: Find the slope of each line, and determine whether the lines are parallel, perpendicular, or neither:
a) 2x + 5y = 4; 4x + 10y = 1 My answer: Slopes are both -2/5; Parallel
b) 3x - 2y = 6; 2x + 3y = 3 My answer: Slopes are 3/2 and -2/3; Perpendicular
c) 5x - 3y = -2; 3x - 5y = -8 My answer: Slopes are 5/3 and 3/5; Perpendicular
Let me know if you need more info on how I came to my answers. These are from a homework assignment (from my teacher, not a book), which I don't think will count significantly toward my grade. I'm just curious if I got this right. I've been ill and missed some class, and my head's still woozy, so I just want to make sure I'm on-track, or whether I should try again. Thanks!

Question 74297: Hey,
im the girl from before with the question about equations & such.
i still don't get it.
I put that answer in & it said it was wrong.
im not sure how to do this.
It gives me graphs to work it out on, but I still don't know how.
Please can you explain it too me once more.
Im sorry to keep bothering you, i just really want to understand this.
It says,
What is the equation of the vertical line that passes through the point (-1,-3)
THANKS!

Question 77064: Sorry not sure what kind of algebra it is.
the question is from nov03 edexcel gcse paper, and tells us the area of a trapezium is 36cm^2
show that x^2-x-56=56, which i got to be,
1/2(a+b)h
=1/2(x+2+x+6)x-5
1/2(2x+8)x-5=36
x+4 multiplied by x-5
36 =x^2-20+4x-5
therefore x^2-x-56=0
is that right?
and then it asks you to solve the equation x^2-x-56=0
i've got so far
x^2-x=56
x^2=56+x
but i never know what to do next? please help!
