Question 5128: Please help me
(5+i)+ (6-2i)
when i tried, i tried solving this by distributing so this is what i got:
30-10i+6i-2i^2

Question 5373: Let T be a linear operator on a finite-dimensional vector space V, and let
b (beta) be an ordered basis for V. Prove that l (lamda) is an eigenvalue of T if and only if l (lamda) is an eigenvalue of [T]b (beta).

Question 5740: I'm having difficulty figuring out determinants for matricies that exceed the normal 3x3 format. The exact matrix is as follows:
1 2 0 0
3 -1 4 5
-2 4 1 6
2 -1 -2 -3
Our book explains that if two rows or columns of a square matrix A are identical, then the absolute value of A = 0 ... but none of these rows or columns are identical. I have tried the D=a11C11+a21C21+a31C31 and adding in the fourth a41C41, but my answer wasn't correct (understandably so).
Any piece of information is helpful. Thank you,
Abby

Question 5792: For the following linear operator T on the vector space V, test T for diagonalizability, and if T is diagonalizable, find a basis B for V such that [T]B is a diagonal matrix.
V= M(2x2)(R) and T is defined by T(A) = A^t.

Question 5842: Word Problem:
An initial deposite of $4000 is made in a savings account for which the interest is compounded continuously. The balance will triple in 15 years. What is the annual rate of interest for this account?
I took the A=Pe to the rt formula.
12000=4000e to the 15r
divided 4000 to each side
3=e to the 15 r
then I found the natural log of both sides
ln3=ln15 to the r
I divided by ln15
ln3/1n15=r
Is this right?
