Question 389675: 3. The linear equation
y=0.15x+0.78
represents an estimate of the average cost of gas for year x starting in 1997. The year 1997 would be represented by x = 1, for example, as it is the first year in the study. Similarly, 2005 would be year 9, or x = 9.
a) What year would be represented by x = 6?
b) What x-value represents the year 2016?
c) What is the y-intercept?
d) What does the y-intercept represent?
e) Assuming this growth trend continues, what will the price of gasoline be in the year 2016? How did you arrive at your answer?

Question 389679: 1. Suppose you are at the gas station filling your tank with gas. The function C(g) represents the cost C of filling up the gas tank with g gallons. Given the equation: C(G)=3.12(G)
a) What does the number 3.12 represent?
b) Find C(2)
c) Find C(9)
d) If you were to graph C(g), what values would make up an appropriate domain? Range? Explain your reasoning and remember to include ALL appropriate values.

Question 394361: This is a discussion question in my class. I have seen how a few other students have written an answer for a linear function, but I am having trouble with choosing a real life function and actually writing out the process. I am trying to grasp it- need help. Thank you.
In a linear function, the rate of change is constant. In a non-linear function, the rate change is not constant. (It may be predictable, or it may not be - but the rate of change is not a constant - a number.) A piecewise function is a function that is described in different pieces over it's domain. Describe either real life situation that could be modeled be either a linear, a non-linear function, or a piecewise function.
Explain why the model is linear, non-linear, or piecewise?
I need to make sure that I describe what is the input variable and what is the output variable in my model.

Question 395175: a temporary agency offers two payment options for administrative help:
option 1: $25 daily fee plus $10/hour or
option 2:no daily fee but $15/hour
Let x= total hours worked
a.)write a mathematical model representing the total temp cost, C, for a four day temporary administrative assistant in terms of x for the following:
Option 1: C=
Option 2: C=
1.)how many total hours would the temp need to work in the four day period for the cost option 1 to be less than option 2. Set up an inequality and show your work algebraically using the information in part a. Don't forget about the daily fee in option 1 (its a four day proposition!). Do not assume an 8 hour work day. Any number of hours per day is possible.

Question 397982: can you please explain how you work these out. i would be gratful if you show your working out clearly so that i understand it.
2) multiply and simplify :
x(2x+8)-x(x-3)
2π(R^2 -r ^2)
factorise common factor:
20x - 35
2x^2 +6
12y^2 - 4YX+20x^2Y
2πrh + 2πr^2
solve the follwoing equations
2(x-1)=3
7r+2=5(r-4)
Solve simultaneous equations algebraically and draw a graph.
a)Y = 2x
Y= x + 5
b)3x + y = 13
2x – 3y = 6
c)2x + 3y = 7
3x – 2y = 17
