Step 2: Choose any point on the coordinate plane that is NOT on the line you just graphed. Whenever the line does NOT pass through the origin, the origin is an outstanding choice for this step.

Step 3. Substitute the coordinates of the point you just chose for and in the original inequality. If the result is a true statement, shade the half-plane on the side of the line that CONTAINS the point chosen in Step 2. Otherwise, shade in the other side of the line.
