One piece is x
Another piece is x+6
Problem:
x+(x+6) = 72
2x+6=72
2x+6(-6) = 72(-6)
2x=66
2x/2 = 66/2
x=33
Check the Solution!
x+(x+6)=72
33+(33+6)=72
33+39=72
72=72
TRUE
One piece is x, or 33.
Another piece is x+6, or 33+6=39.
Solution:
One piece is 33-inches and the second piece is 39-inches.
