Question 93489: Use slope and Y intercept to graph -3x+y=-6
Answer by checkley75(3666)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

-3x+y=6
y=3x+6
[STANDARD LINE EQUATION IS Y=mX+b WHERE X&Y ARE ONE SET OF POINTS, (m)=SLOPE & (b)=Y INTERCEPT.
SLOPE=3 (FOR EVERY -3/+3 UNIT IN THE Y DIRECTION THERE ARE -1/+1 UNITS IN THE X DIRECTION.
IN THIS CASE STARTING FROM THE Y INTERCEPT(0,6) YOU DRAW A SLOPE LINE MARKING OFF -3 Y & -1 X UNITS FOR THE NEXT POINT ON THE LINE.
OR YOU CAN SET Y=0 & SOLVE FOR X. THUS:
0=3X+6
3X=-6
X=-2 OR THE POINT(-2,0)
Y INTERCEPT=(0,6)
(graph 300x200 pixels, x
from -6 to 5, y from -10 to 10, y = 3x +6).
