Question 917370: Find the equation of the line that goes through the points (–1, -1) and (4, 5) in point slope form.

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x1 y1 x2 y2
-1 -1 4 5

slope m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
( 5 - -1 )/( 4 - -1 )
( 6 / 5 )
m= 1 1/ 5
The required line passes through both the points. So we select one point and plug it with the slope
Plug value of the slope and point ( -1 , -1 ) in
Y = m x + b
-1.00 = 6/5 * -1 + b
-1.00 = -6/5 + b
b= -1 + 6/5
b= 1/ 5
So the equation will be
Y = 6/5 x + 1/5
