Plug in f(x) = 0 and solve for x.

f(x) = x^2 - 9

0 = x^2 - 9

x^2 - 9 = 0

(x-3)(x+3) = 0

x-3 = 0 or x+3 = 0

x = 3 or x = -3

The two solutions are x = 3 or x = -3 (each has multiplicity 1)
