Question 8548: The problem I am working on is for some reason just escaping me. It is
15x-4=6x+3

Answer by rapaljer(4671)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First, you must get all the x terms on one side. To get rid of the 6x on the right side, you can add -6x to each side:

15x - 4 = 6x + 3
15x -6x - 4 = 6x - 6x + 3
9x - 4 = 3

Next, you need to get all the "non-x" terms on the OTHER side. In this case, it will be nice to get rid of the -4, so you add +4 to each side:
9x - 4 = 3
9x -4 +4 = 3 + 4
9x = 7

The last step is to get the x by itself. To get rid of the 9, you must realize that the operation between the 9 and the x is multiplication, so you must undo multiplication--that is, divide both sides by 9.

It's ugly, but in math you just have to get used to ugly!! It happens all the time. Life doesn't always come out even!!
