A base of a rectangle is 3cm longer than the height. The area of the rectangle is 40cm^2. Find the base and the height of the rectangle?
***
let h=height of rectangle
base of rectangle=h+3
Area=height*base=h(h+3)=h^2+3h
h^2+3h=40
h^2+3h-40=0
(h+8)(h-5)=0
h=-8(reject)
h=5
base=h+3=8
..
height of rectangle=5cm
base of rectangle=8cm
