Question 65958: A bus leaves a station at 1 P.M., traveling west at an aver-age
rate of 44 mi/h. One hour later a second bus leaves the same station, traveling
east at a rate of 48 mi/h. At what time will the two buses be 274 mi apart?

Answer by chitra(359)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
We first calculate the average velocity of both the buses.

That is given by:

Average Velocity =

= 46 milies/ hr

Therefore, total time taken to cover 274 miless by the two buses would be

=

=

= 5.95 hrs

Then there is a time gap of 1 hr for the 2nd bus to start from the initial position

Therefore,

5.95 + 1 = 6.95 hrs

Hence, the solution.
