A quantity is a countable amount -- an amount that you can determine exactly. You can have exactly 3 cars -- a quantity. You can have exacty 14 schoolbooks. You could have exactly 1,325,665,988,023,456,832 grains of rice (just because it would be impractical to count them doesn't mean you can't count them). But no matter how precise a measuring device you have you will never, ever be able to measure an exact distance. All measurements, unless they are countable, are approximations. A quantity of things must be countable.
