If it is the hour hand you're talking about, the tip sweeps out 1 circumference of the circle it travels through in 1 hour. The formula for the circumference of a circle is C = 2pr = 2(3.14)(10) = 62.8 cm. If it is the minute hand, it sweeps through 60 times as many circumferences as it would if it were the hour hand or 60·62.8 = 3768 cm or 37.68 meters. If it is the second hand, it sweeps through 60 times as many circumferences as it would if it were the minute hand or 60·37.68 = 2260.8 meters, or 2.2608 km. a little less than a mile and a half.
