ratio is 4:3
let the numbers be x & y (x>y)
x/y = 4/3
3x=4y
3x-4y=0.....................(1)
(x-4)=(y+8)
x-y = 8+4
x-y=12.....................(2)

3 x -4 y = 0 .............1
1 x -1 y = 12 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by 1
Multiply (2) by -4
3 x -4 y = 0
-4 x 4 y = -48
Add the two equations
-1 x = -48
/ -1
x = 48
plug value of x in (1)
3 x + -4 y = 0
144 + -4 y = 0
-4 y = 0 -144
-4 y = -144
y = 36
The numbers are 36 & 48
