Question 4945: (x+7)(x-1)=(x+1)Squared
Answer by lotanez(23)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(x+7)(x-1) = (x+1)(x+1)
Use the FOIL method on both sides
(x)(x)+(x)(-1)+(7)(x)+(7)(-1) = (x)(x)+(x)(1)+(1)(x)+(1)(1)
x^2+(-1x)+7x+(-7) = x^2+1x+1x+1
x^2+6x-7 = x^2+2x+1
Put all the x values on one side of the equation:
x^2-x^2 + 6x-2x - 7+7 = x^2-x^2 + 2x-2x + 1+7
4x=8
4x/4=8/4
x=2
