Question 4745: What facts concerning the solution of a quadratic equation can be
deduced from the discriminant of the quadratic formula? In other words,
what different types of solutions are possible depending on the
value of the discriminant? Please be specific about when these occur.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the discriminant can be either negative, zero or positive.

If positive, it means there are 2 roots. The curve cuts the x-axis at 2 points.

If zero, it means there is just 1 root. The turning point in the curve just touches the x-axis.

If negative, it means there are no solutions (as far as basic algebra courses are concerned). The curve does not cross or touch the x-axis.
