Question 463705: Solve the equation:
8x^2 + 5x - 4 = 2x^2 - 8x +1
First I subtracted to get 0 on one side of the equation
6x^2 + 13x -5 =0
I couldn't factor that to solve the problem. What do I do?

Answer by algebrahouse.com(1659)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
8x^2 + 5x - 4 = 2x^2 - 8x +1
6x^2 + 13x -5 =0
(3x - 1)(2x + 5) = 0 {factored into two binomials}
3x - 1 = 0 or 2x + 5 = 0 {set each factor equal to 0}
3x = 1 or 2x = -5 {added 1 and subtracted 5, respectively}
x = 1/3 or x = -5/2 {divided by 3 and 2, respectively}

If you didn't factor, the quadratic formula would've worked also.
