Question 461139: what is the substitution method of x+3y=3
2x-4y=6

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1 x + 3 y = 3 .............1
-4 y = 6 -2 x ---------2
/ -4 =
y = -1.5 + 0.5 x
Substitute y in (1)
1 x + 3 ( -1.5 + 0.5 x ) = 3
1 x -4.5 + 1.5 x = 3
1 x + 1.5 x = 3 4.5
2.5 x = 7.5
/ 2.5
x= 3
Plug the value of x in (1)
1 x + 3 y = 3
1 * 3 + 3 y = 3
3 + 3 y = 3
3 y = 0
/ 3
y= 0
