Answer by user_dude2008(1862) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1/x - 3/y = 2
6/x + 5/y = -34
u = 1/x, v = 1/y
u-3v = 2
6u+5v = -34
-6u+18v = -12
6u+5v = -34
Add equations: 23v = -46
v = -46/(-23) = -2
v = -2
u-3v = 2 ----> u-3(-2)=2 ---> u = 2-6 = -4
u = -4
u = 1/x ----> -4=1/x ----> x = -1/4
v = 1/y ----> -2=1/y ----> y = -1/2
Answers: x = -1/4, y = -1/2
