3x + 2y = 17
Multiply the 1st equation by 1.5
1.5(2x+5y) = 1.5(4)
3x + 7.5y = 6
Subtract this equation by the 2nd equation
3x + 7.5y = 6
3x + 2y = 17
------------------
0 + 5.5y = -11
Divide both sides by 5.5
y = -2
Substitute y = -2 in equation1
2x + 5(-2) = 4
2x + -10 = 4
Add 10 to both sides
2x = 14
x = 7
