Find the value of k if the line through the points (k+1, k-2) and (3,4) is parallel to the line through the points (3,1) and (6,-1).
..
(k+1, k-2) and (3,4) slope of this line
=4-(k-2)/3-(k+1)
=6-k/2-k
...
(3,1) and (6,-1).
slope is
-1-1/6-3
=-2/3
..
the lines are parallel
so slopes are equal
6-k / 2-k = -2/3
3(6-k)=-2(2-k)
18-3k=-4+2k
18+4=2k+3k
22=5k
k=22/5
