Question 34572: need help with the following:
1. The table below shows the comparison of the cost, in dollars, of a $100,000 life insurance policy for female nonsmokers at certain ages
Age, a Cost, C
31 170
32 172
33 176
34 178
35 182
Model the data with a linear function using age 32 and 35.
2. Using the line in Exercise 2, predict the cost of the life insurance for a female nonsmoker of age 40.
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You have two points: (32,172) and (35,182)
You want an equation of the form y=mx+b
m=[182-172]/[35-32]
m=10/3
Using the point (32,172) in the equation y=mx+b
you get:
172=(10/3)(32)+b
b=65 1/3
Your equation is y=(10/3)x+(196/3)
Now, find "y" if x=40:
y=(10/3)40+(196/3)
y=198.67
It looks like your data takes a strange jump at age 35; should it?
Cheers,
stan H.
