Question 329535: what does the y equal in the solution of the system of equations below?
3x-y=1
y-x=-5

Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3x-y=1
y-x=-5
y=x-5
Now replace y in the first equation with (x-5) & solve for x
3x-(x-5)=1
3x-x+5=1
2x=1-5
2x=-4
x=-4/2
x=-2 ans.
y=-2-5
y=-7 ans.
Proof:
3*-2-(-7)=1
-6+7=1
1=1
