Question 29326: a-6/12=a-2/12
Answer by sdmmadam@yahoo.com(530) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a-6/12=a-2/12
The problem is wrong.
If you subtract a from both the sides, then you get -6/12 = -2/12 which is wrong.
Suppose you take the problem to be
(a-6)/12=(a-2)/12
Then also the problem is wrong as on multiplication through out by 12, we get
(a-6) =(a-2) implying -6=-2 which is also wrong
Probably the problem is as follows:
a/12-6= a+5/12 ----(1)
Multiplying through out by 12
(a/12)X12 - 6X12 = 12a +(5/12)X12
a-72 = 12a +5
-72-5 =12a-a
-77=11a
a= -77/11 =-7
Answer: a = -7
Verification: LHS of (1) is
a/12-6 =-7/12-6 = (-7-72)/12 = -79/12
RHS of (1) is
a+5/12 = -7+5/12 = (-84+5)/12 = -79/12 = LHS
Note: If your problem is something else please give.
