x + 2y = 7 ------ (i)
3x + 5y = 17 -------(ii)
-3x - 6y = -21 -------(iii)--- Multiplying eq (i) by - 3
-y = - 4---- Adding eq (ii) and (iii)

Substituting 4 for y in eq (i) to get: x + 2(4) = 7

x + 8 = 7
