Question 20920: My teacher told me that u need to cancel out one of the variables. And when i do that it ends up canceling out both. How do i do it so it doesn't? 8m-2n=-16 2m-.5n=-4Answer by khwang(438)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hi: If you found something wrong try again, calm down , sit and think. Change 8m-2n=-16 2m-.5n=-4 into 4m-n =-8 4m-n= -8 by suing your eyes, absoltely no calculator, and no need pen or pencil. You will see they are the same equation. Tjis means they are linearly independent (or two parallel lines ) and have infinitely many solutions. Kenny PS: This belongs to (baby )linear system, not in linear algebra. A serious mistake of posting pin wrong category here.
