Question 208477: I am trying to figure out a question that has 2 parts. The question is as follows:
A) What is the domain and range of the relation x +[y] = 3?
b) What is the domain and range of the function y = 2x^2-3?
Since [y] cannot be a negative number would the answer for part (a) be: (-&, 3)
For part (b) I am not quite sure bit I think it would be a union containing the square root of 2).
I am lost!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to figure out a question that has 2 parts. The question is as follows:
A) What is the domain and range of the relation x +[y] = 3?
I assume your [y] means absolute value of y.
If that is correct you get:
|y| = -x+3
Since |y| is never negative you have
-x+3 >= 0
-x >= -3
x <= 1 (That is the domain)
----
The domain is All Real Numbers.

b) What is the domain and range of the function y = 2x^2-3?
Domain: All Real Numbers
Range: All Real Numbers >= -3.
