What is the equation of the line that passes through the point (-1,7) and is parallel to the line y=-2x-1?
-------------------
If it's parallel, it has the same slope. y=-2x-1 is in the slope-intercept form, y=mx+b, where m is the slope.
So the slope is -2
--------------
y-y1 = m*(x-x1) where (x1,y1) is the given point.
y-7 = -2*(x - (-1))
y-7 = -2*(x+1)
y-7 = -2x-2
y = -2x+5 (slope-intercept form)
2x + y = 5 (standard form)
