: an airplane manufacturer is producing a ball bearing whose diameter is to measure 1.7500 inches. the manufacturing process is required to be extremely accurate. the tolerance allowed on the ball bearing is one ten-thousanth of an inch.
a. on a number line, graph the range of acceptable diameters for the ball bearing.
b.write a compound inequality for the range of acceptable diameters for the ball bearing.
c.write an absolute value inequality for the range of acceptable diameters for the ball bearing
d.write and absolute value inequality for the range of diameters of ball bearings that are rejected by the manufacturer.
if u cant show me the number line one is okay. i could probably figure that one out but it would be nice to be shown how to do all a-d =] thank u.

Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
an airplane manufacturer is producing a ball bearing whose diameter is to measure 1.7500 inches. the manufacturing process is required to be extremely accurate. the tolerance allowed on the ball bearing is one ten-thousanth of an inch.
a. on a number line, graph the range of acceptable diameters for the ball bearing.
Make this graph so you can see why the following answers are what they are.
You should put a point at 1.75. Then draw an interval 0.0001 to the right
to 1.7501 and 0.0001 to the point 1.75-0.0001 = 1.7499 to the left.
------------------------------------------------
b.write a compound inequality for the range of acceptable diameters for the ball bearing.
1.7499 <= x <= 1.7501
---------------------------
c.write an absolute value inequality for the range of acceptable diameters for the ball bearing
|x-1.75| <= 0.001
---------------------------
d.write and absolute value inequality for the range of diameters of ball bearings that are rejected by the manufacturer.
|x-1.75| > 0.001
