Answer by edjones(8007)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x= the number
3(x-2)=x+6
3x-6=x+6
2x=12 subtract x and add 6 to both sides.
x=6 divide each side by 2.
Check:
6-2=4...4*3=12...12-6=6
