4x-3y=19...........I
6x+3y=21...........II
solution:
add equation I and II to eliminate y
4x-3y+6x+3y=19+21
10x=40
divide both sides by 10
10x/10 = 40/10
x=4
substitute 4 for x in equation I
4(4)-3y=19
16-3y=19
-3y=19-16
-3y=3
divide both sides by -3
-3y/-3 = 3/-3
y = -1
x=4, y=-1
