Question 205765: Hi,
Can someone help me with this probability problem? I'm having trouble figuring this one out. Thank you!!
A bicycle plant runs two assembly lines, A and B. 96% of line A’s products pass instruction, while only 89% of line B’s products pass inspection, and 70% of the factory’s bikes come off assembly line A.
a) What is the probability that a randomly selected bike did not pass inspection?
b) What is the probability that a randomly selected bike that did not pass inspection came from
assembly line A?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! let's look at 1000 bikes
700 came from A, with 28 defective
300 came from B, with 33 defective
a) 61 defective out of 1000 gives a .061 probability
b) 28 out of 61 defective are from A, so the probability is 28/61 or 0.459 (approx)
